greetings all

i have a 53 gmc 3/4 ton and up here in my area i was hoping to find a decient box for the old gal but everything i looked at was so cancer eaten it wasnt even good for scrap

so i went to the wrecking yard and picked myself up an aftermarket box ,they use em on heavy duty applications around here logging trucks and such
if ya wanna see what in talking about lookup "rebco boxes "

now this box is heavy duty as i said earlier it weighs in at about 1000 pounds by itself or therabouts so i am going to put 1 ton springs on the old gal this summer
now that you now the background my question is:

is there a difference betewwn 3/4 and 1 ton shocks?? or are they 1 and the same??

You know a good place to ask? I would go to a 4x4 shop, they're all over the country. Ask them. They routinely modify trucks and deal with shocks, so they can make their recommendations.

If there is a difference it,s probably mostly in the mounting. 3/4 ton shocks in good condition should work fine. These heavy leaf springs arn,t criticle about shocks.

1 tons didn't have rear shocks on the ADs. If you're only adding the heavier springs fom a 1 ton, just use the same shock mounts that are already on the truck, and perhaps use the heaviest shock that you can get for it.

I think the one ton shocks were a little more heavy duty then the 3/4 ton shocks. There are seperate part numbers for them listed.

Standard one tons had no rear shocks, but were
an option...RPO No. 200 for '53 and a few years earlier as well.

i talked to the parts guy and his book didnt start listing shocks for 1 tons till 1963 and with some good luck he had a pair in stock.....i opened it up and they are not the right ones i never measures them oranything but the mountine hole on top was wrong:(
im starting to think when i get the new springs under the old gal this summer ill measure it up and see if 3/4 ton shocks would fit........if the 1 tons didnt have shocks....im just not gonna find em am i
