Also, the truck has not run for about 10 years so I assume this should be done prior to even thinking about firing it up?

Rebuild basically means take it apart, put it back together. Make sure you've got your cheat sheet that comes with the rebuild kit, or a seperate manual, whichever. If you run across any problems, post it in the appropriate forum, and you'll get help from plenty of people.
Prior to firing it up, be sure to get out the bad gas in the fuel lines and in your tank. Bad gas will muck up that freshly rebuilt carb of yours.

There are some great carb builders on this forum that can help you. I used a kit from NAPA to rebuild my '54 Rochester B. >>> Label and bag each piece as you remove it. You'll thank me when you start reassembling! I found the float was not anywhere close to being adjusted correctly, certainly there would have been issues with installing the carb as-is. Rodchesters are easy to rebuild,I always have to make notes about the two steel bb's inside,they are different in size. Good Luck ! Tim
