When I began working on a 63 Chevy, the speedometer didn't work ... which wasn't surprising, because the cable was disconnected. I've reconnected to the dash, but where the heck does the other end hook? I crawled around for an hour, then figured some of y'all would know. It's a regular 3-speed manual, modified from the tree to the floor, if that makes a difference.

I know the connector is there somewhere, I'm just missing it!

thanks!

Typically the other end conects to the tail end of the tranny.

Driver's side, near the tail end of the tranny. More than likely it's covered in 40 years of crud. There should also be a small bolt (3/8s?)on the tranny where the cable goes in. It holds it into the trans. (working from memory, don't curse at me if I'm wrong:))
Glad to see someone else with a '63 on here.

Most of the cheap aftermarket three speed shifters I have seen usually make it hard to hook up the speedo cable without modifing the bracket that bolts the shifter to the trans. The part you screw the cable on is usually behind the shifter assembly, hopefully the person who installed it was too lazy to hook the cable back up but you might have to cut out the bracket some to get the cable hooked up or find one of those 90 degree angle adapters that some trucks have to get the cable to work.

Thanks, folks for the replies!

Jeff, I fear your's may be the most logical. It's definitely aftermarket, judging from the gaping hole cut in the floor. Truck belonged to my uncle and was given to me with the understanding I fix it. When I started poking around the wiring, I should've given it back!!

But heck it's family and I have a lot of good memories, tossing melons to the hogs in the back of the truck. It's never gonna be a show truck, but it would be nice to know how fast (or slow) it's going!

Thanks again!

you don't need a speedo. But a good loocking girl in the back and watch what happens

10 miles hairs are moving slowly
20 miles hairs start to fly horizontal
30 miles her scirt moves up and exposes
here legs
40 miles here shirt gets unbuttoned
50 miles she is holding on to here bra
60 miles youre truck is flat out and you have no time to watch the girl

Hi
I'm new here and just starting to get into my '64 C10.
I too have an aftermarket floor shifter that prevents me from connecting the speedo cable.
Does anyone have a source for a 90-degree connector for the cable?

thanks!
