The level in the float bowl is going way above where it should be.

You must also have a good needle and seat, and your floats must be light and not full of gas, hope that helps.

One other thing IT STARTED!!!!!!! but everytime we hit the throttle the carb floods... would this still be the problem with the floats? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | Likely. Your kit should have had a paper guide for setting the float and a new needle and seat.

If this is a Rochester B, the float levelshould be 1 9/32". This means when you hold the air horn upside down, the top edge of the float should be 1 9/32" from the flat surface. When you turn it rightside up, the float drops down and it should then measure 1 3/4" from the flat surface . | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 174 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 174 | Alright, quick question... How to i set the float? like how do i make it stay at 1 9/32" and 1 3/4"? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Josh_51GMC, there is a bendable tongue which is part of the float assembly, it rests on the needle, you have to bend that until the floats sit at the specified setting with the top of the carb upside down so that the float will sit on the needle when it is in the closed position. Do not just push on the float when it's resting on the needle, if you have a "rubber" tipped needle it could be damaged or jammed into the orifice by that practise. The drop adjustment is done by a tang which rests on the back of the the seat "tube" which the needle is installed into, bend the tang to limit the drop to the specified measurement. When you check the measurements make sure both of the floats are measuring the same distance, and that the floats are light and not full of fuel, hope that helps | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 174 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 174 | Thanks 3B, i got it. and it worked, only a tiny bit of gas leaked from where the top and bottom half's of the carb join.
For setting the idle speed though, my truck idles real rough and will only continue to run if somebody keeps pressure on the gas pedal... any ideas as to what can be done? i first tried with the idle screw all the way in, didnt work. then i tried 2 and a half turns out... still no. then i tried 4, again no......help | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy Josh_51GMC, you may have a vacuum leak, or some cylinders that are just not contributing. Have you done a compression check yet? Do you have a vacuum gauge that you could hook up to the manifold vacuum with the engine running? Those two things will tell you a lot about how the engine will run. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 174 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 174 | alright, ill see if i can stop in at KMS today and buy a vacuum gauge and maybe a compression gauge | | |
