All later model standard trans use the clutch switch where the clutch pedal has to be down near the floor for the starter to engage.

As the pedal came close to the floorboard, the last inch or so of pedal travel actuated the starter solenoid. I think there was also a vacuum-operated safety switch in the carburetor that prevented the solenoid from engaging with the engine running Jerry
