Due to financial constraints, I'm not able to change my intake or exhaust until next winter. Other than unrealized potential, are there any real problems with this?

I would think that you will do ok with the stock intake/exhaust system. Of coure, all improvements over stock hopefully add to performance but your 292 already has the rep. for low end power. Just remember, "There is no substitute for cubic inches except cubic money".

Cheap. Pick two." lol I kow I want to open the breathing, but money tells me I have to wait. I just wanna make sure I won't mess anything up if I do the guts now but not the intake and exhaust.

It needs more carb. to get it,s full potential. The 292 came with a larger throat carb. but most of them have been replaced with the smaller carb.
