I'm converting the foot start on my 58 Viking with a 261 to a to a key start. I replaced the original starter with a starter that has an electric solenoid. The solenoid has 3 connections, R, S and battery. I have a basic ignition switch with battery, ignition, acss and a connection in the center. On the solenoid one wire connects the R to the positive side of the coil. The S connects to the center stud on the ignition switch. There is a second connection that comes of of the R terminal on the solenoid and a second connection that comes from the battery connection. Do these connect to the ignition and battery on the switch? I'm not concerned with the acc on the switch. Feel free to add to or correct anything I've written. I've seen wiring mistakes get ugly in a hurry. Thanks

you'll need a different ignition switch [or an added push button] for a solenoid starting setup, the foot start switch won't do it, no 'start' position .... I'd suggest getting the V8 key start switch would be easiest

I got a generic ignition switch from the auto parts store with a start position. I want to make sure it's wired correctly before I hook up a battery.

I'm using a push button switch from a modern dump truck,i have found one that fits up into the original rubber boot that was mounted on the floor.My'n is a 54 with a 350- v8 but i think this would work with any electric starter.
You can use a wire with gator clips to check where to place the switch in the wiring.

I am using a starter switch from a 58-59 in my 48. It has the key start. I have a 216 from a 52 chevy car with the key start solenoid. This setup works fine.
