Looking for experiance from those who have installed an aftermarket window regulator gear kit for a task force. Do they work, fit, etc. I ask as I purchased an aftermarket regulator for another door and was disappointed that the knurled post for the handle was a different size/pattern than the original. Thanks for any input.

I bought the ones sold by Classicparts.com. It's cheaper than a full regulator, and the knurls are correct. But it's narrower and the holes don't line up with the old retainer, so you have to drill new holes. Something seems off on the tension, but I also might have messed something up. You have to drill out the rivets holding the existing parts. The ones that came with the new gears seemed cheap to me, so I used short screws and nuts instead. I had a VERY hard time holding the tension while I put it all together, and that's why I think I might have messed something up. It also could be that since the alignment is not an exact thing, I may have set it too close or something. When you remove the old parts, the arm wants to spring way past the geared portion. If I'd have known ahead of time, I'd have clamped it somehow, allowing a drop in of the new gear.

Guumbah, thanks for the reply. Over the weekend, I took a gear assembly from a spare from the opposite door and used it to fix my drivers side. The spring in the gear was broke causing it to slip when rolling down. Rivets are not my friend as there is no access to replace one of the three for the housing. I welded that hole and used spare rivits from my wing window moulding for the other two. I was curious about the aftermarket kit and thought it may not be a good fit. I dont want to mess with regulators too often. Kind of tedious.

That was probably the right move. I went with the aftermarket thing simply because it was my cheapest option at the time, and I needed to be able to use the window (mine's my daily driver). It works well enough to get by, but I am definitely planning to do it better when I get back around to working on that door. Either with a whole new regulator, or something like what you did using a donor.
