Anyone have shot of what that is supposed to look like?

If I remember correctly, there is a plate or plates that have a special shape that go behind the panel. This is an area of stress and on mine it was cracked. I did do some welding there.

Which is broken at the end that attaches to the firewall! :P I have to figure out what angle that goes back together as well!

Pretty common problem Mark, mine is the same way. I see you have the bracket out to weld it back together. I'd weld up the holes in the dash while I was at it and punch a couple of new holes.
That's what I'm gonna do with mine when I get the cab off.
