I have been gathering parts for my 1953 5 windows return to the road. My question is, what outside door handles will work? My truck's VIN decodes to a very early 1953, maybe in the first 1,000 made at the Ohio plant. So, the VIN says its a 1953 but it shows a lot of 1952 features. No vent windows, lower pressure oil gauge, and it has one lever style door handle. It does not work and I am going to get new ones. Will the 53 button type work or should I get the lever type? Thanks | | | | | Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 457 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2011 Posts: 457 | Door description sounds like my long gone '49. If I recall correctly, the lever style will not fit the push button doors, or vice versa. The holes in the door and the inner structure are different. Somebody with more info will be along soon, I'm sure. Good luck with your project!

Sounds like you have '47-'50 doors installed. Most likely, a PO swappped the doors to eliminate the vent widows. The mechanisms are different, and I beleive the doors are different internally, so you'll need handles/mechanisms to fit the doors you're using.

( This truck was mostly apart when I bought it. ) I'm guessing the striker plate would be different? It could be the cab has a 1953 striker plate and the doors, being an eariler year won't match up to that?
