i have added a pi here:
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x264/uffeg/Viking%20Engine/20110123122.jpg

I ordered a carb rebould kit, and it seemed okay, until I took the carb apart.

The kit had a round accelerator pump, and mine is flat, and long.

The carb tag is long gone, but I have the number 7004510 inside.

Guess someone has changed the truck carb for a car one frown and that's the reason why I have nothing to connect the hose from the valvecover, in the air filter.

So my question, can I use another carb, for the 2 ton 6500 truck ? Like a Holley, or whatever ?

Or else I need another carb rebuild kit, that includes the flat rochester B acc pump.

Br /Ulf

Hy lastchancetowing, as far as the hose to the air filter is concerned that is the way it is suppossed to be. Your carb has a manual choke, a lot of car carbs have automatic chokes, maybe someone changed up to a newer carb, but it doesn't look too different from what should be there, could you post a picture of the accelerator pump, I have never seen anything other than a round one.

The engine in your truck looks to be a 261 not a 235.A carb from a 40-52 car would be smaller and would not fit the manifold. Maybe you have the wrong kit for the carb, but the round pump should be the right one.

okay, but the round pump can't fit my carb. So I have the wrong kit yes. But I know also I have the wrong carb, since the air cleaner is wrong too. And the carb looks exactly as an early car model B inside. like this one:

Ulf, I've never seen a model B carb that doesn't have a round accelerator pump. I have a 261 in my truck and have a holley/weber carb from Langdons stovebolt engine company. It runs good with that carb.

There is a bolter by the name of carb king, that may be able to help you. The only thing I can think of is maybe the carb is off of a 216 and had a smaller diameter pump.

Ulf -

The accelerator pump your photo album looks round to me. Are you talking about another part?

looking back at Ulfs first post, I believe he's saying the old acc pump rod is a flat bar, the new one is shorter and round rod .... he's not talking about the piston end being round or flat

One of the many issues we face when selling carburetor kits is the accepted myth "they are all the same" or "one fits all". And then I am the bad guy for not wishing to sell a kit if the customer does not have the original identification number.

Ulf is indeed correct that Rochester DID make a flat shaft pump for some of the model B carbs. In fact, they made more than one! They also made more than one with the round shaft. Several in fact. Just to prove the point, I grabbed three different (2 round shaft and one flat shaft) for the picture below.

There are also a number of DIFFERENT airhorn gaskets, and throttle body gaskets; which are NOT necessarily interchangeable.

Jon.

The carb pictures appears to be a late model "B". It has the "high top" on it which was a later design. The carb looks like the one I have on my '53 6400. I havn't researched the carb numbers but believe that a 235 carb would fit a 261. Don

So if I get another well running carb from a 1955 car with a 235 in, can it be a good enough fit ?

Don't want to buy something completely wrong.

CARBKING, do you think it's the original carb, only my air cleaner that is wrong then... since it's without the mounting for the hose from valve cover

Don't know. We won't work on the B (for about the last 15 years), so cannot say from first hand experience.
