I have a 1961 Chev with a 235 and a rochester. It had sat for alot of years, so I've spent the last 9 months freshening everything up. I had neglected the gas tank before, and while driving it, it kept running itself out of fuel. seeing how I had replaced everything fuel related except the tank and sending unit, I replaced both of those with new ones. I put on a new fuel filter as well. I drove it alot today, up and down the highway, and it seems like its ok, but the level of fuel seen in the filter never stays the same. When it's running at high rpms, it generally stays about half full. At idle, it goes below half full sometimes, and once went pretty much empty. But then I revved the engine for a while and it went back to half full. Once after having it shut off for a while, I looked again, and it was completely empty. Is this normal?? Seems really odd...shouldnt it be the same all the time? I really need to get this thing to be reliable...I cant have it stalling in traffic like it was doing before.
Just so its known, I've replaced EVERYTHING fuel related in the truck. New tank, new sending unit, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, new carb, and the lines have been cleaned out really well.
