Forgive me for asking and maybe its because im not old enough to have dealt with them before. but whats with the throttle knob? is it to help with the idle or something. I understand the manual choke but the throttle has got me puzzled. What was it used for and why couldn't the peddle just control the throttle? Once again im just wondering.

One of the uses, from what I've read here, is that a farmer could put the truck in first, use the throttle to control speed and walk outside the truck unloading hay or what ever. Also, someone could have hooked up a PTO and used the throttle to run the PTO.

It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it.

before i dismantled my truck to do a restoration, i used it sometimes to help it with warm-up in cold temps. when I reassembled the truck i didn't reconnect this feature because i won't use the truck in the cold and it really didn't have that much utility otherwise. if i want it again, its a simple matter to reconnect it.

Rusty has it exactly right.. look at it as a manual cruise control
