Just joined the forum. I'm starting work on a 59 Apache with my 14 year old son. The truck belonged to his great grandfather who was the original owner. Right now were just tearing into it and trying to figure which direction to go with it. We like the idea of keeping it somewhat original with a little race influance , since I have a 64 nova thats a hot rod.

Thanks Ned. The whole stovebolt engine is new to me. I've got a lot of learning to do if I keep the original engine. I've seen some wild sixes with dual and triple carb set ups but can't seem to find any information on where to get these parts.Hopefully this forum can direct me on some hop up ideas , keeping with the original motor. My kids grandfather , the son of his great grandfather was a hot rodder in the 50s and is pretty creative with old vehicles so he will be a big part of this project with us too. This will need to be a budget build with a lot of the work being done by us

Got a soft spot for the Apache's. That will make you one nice looking pickup.... and lot of memories along the way. It also looks like your "doing it once, doing it right".

The motor in your truck is the 235 Chevy six. I raced the 235 six in F gas. Still have tons of Chevy six parts. Good Luck and enjoy.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes you do see a corvair in there. Thats a project for another day. It's a 64 convertable that was given to my wife from a dear family freind when she was just 16 years old. It's in really good shape and runs , just needs a cleaning up. I'm looking forward to that project too. Like the old saying too many toys too little time. Thats the story of my life , I love my toys

I live in Arcadia. Thanks for the heads up on the Pomona swap meet , I forgot all about it. Thanks for the info on the motor. I really am new to whole stove bolt thing so I have a lot to learn. I am leaning toward keeping the engine and modifying it with dual carbs , headers , cam just to be differn't. You see a lot of 350s in these. Let me know if you might be interested in unloading parts that I may need.

Thats my feeling , but try telling that to a kid who's use to driving around in dads blown Nova. I've been showing him youtube videos of some real cool cars with tricked out sixes and he is coming around to the idea. Mom and grampa want to keep it as original as possible with a little umph to it too. So I'm pretty sure thats the direction we'll be going.

Welcome aboard. Great to see another Father/son project!

Well the Apache project has been on the back burner for almost three years now. My son who was going to get it wound up doing a 62 Falcon instead.
Now my other son who just got his permit wants it. We towed it down from the family ranch in the desert today and are cleaning up the frame. My older son convinced me to pull the cab and bed off three years ago and its been sitting since. So for now we're going to focus on the frame , suspension and drivetrain. I'm not sure which direction to go. He wants to hot rod it with a LS drivetrain and the wife wants to leave it stock since its all there and original. I'm stuck in the middle.
I will be needing some sources for the original stuff like glass and weather stripping so if anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Wow, stuck between the two don't leave you much wiggle room. Think it out and take your time. A few minutes EVERY day will do wonders on a restoration.

Most parts are attainable from several vendors. Click on Links, at the top of the page and your find several that bolters use regularly.

Stock or original for a 59 should make a nice driver. Let us know what the verdict is..... or should I say who's gonna be putting the moo-la into it
