| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 10 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2011 Posts: 10 | My freshly rebuilt '51 235 screeches from the carburetor when I give it a lot of throttle. The carb is a rochester B. I thought it was the belt, but I listened very closely and can swear it's coming from the carb. The carb is freshly rebuilt too, the engine idles fine, has good vacuum (19 to 20 steady), and great compression. What could be causing the screech? I can throttle it slowly (from about 600 rpm to 1500) and it's fine, but when I really lay it on, it screeches like hell. The engine is not under load if that makes a difference. Thanks guys... | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 | I'm not sure what you call a screech, but it sure sounds like a belt that is too narrow. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2005 Posts: 1,028 | I had the same issue with my 235 and Rochester B
Check the gasket under the carb. There are 2 types of gaskets. One has notches closer to the bolt holes and the other further from the bolt holes. These notches expose a small hole on the bottom of the carb. I switched from one gasket to the other and the screetch went away
I ended up with the Gasket that has the notches further from the bolt holes it exposes a different hole on the bottom of the carb (there are 2)
I hope this helps Rich | | | | | Joined: May 2011 Posts: 10 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: May 2011 Posts: 10 | Well, guys, turns out it was the belt. Could have fooled me. Got it sounding like a dream now. Thanks for the pointers... | | |
