Just got the wiring transplant done of my 56 3200 235. Worked my way thru one bug after another. Got the lights and new flasher/ turn signal are working. Radio & speakers are good. The head & tale lights are good. The gas guage has no power at the sending unit well actuall about 3 volts. 12 v into the guage and low to none out. I can't see the gas guage needle on either side of guage. I check it before reassembly and worked ok. Is it possible for the needle to be pinched as I did have that with the speedometer needle before testing prior to installing.

The sender gets it power from the gas gauge. It is not something one would nornally measure (with a VOM) while troubleshooting. There are other tests or checks for proper function of the gauge and sender. Make sure your gauge case is grounded. Search the forums as there is a ton of data there as this is one of the most common problems discussed in the electrical section.

TDuffy, I'm also in the process of getting my wiring complete and when I installed my headlight switch and checked the lights and gauges...I noticed I couldn't see the needle of my gas gauge. It is either buried on either side or somehow I didn't put it in correctly ....I'm bummed cause the gauges were a real bee-ouch to put in. No room under dash and lying upside down to see isn't fun....
I'll tackle that after everything else is complete..
Hope everything works out.
