I installed a NOS oil filter canister and new filter. Started noticing oil pressure drop and turned engine off. Oil was coming from the canister lid area. Gasket was rolling inside. Is there any trick for getting the gasket to stay in place. Possibly touch of adhesive like time adhesive? Will try to find new gasket tomorrow. Tom Duffy | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,803 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,803 | I use 3-M trim cement ("Gorilla Snot", as the NASCAR guys call it) and stick the gasket to the canister lid in 3 or 4 places. It's a contact cement, so start with a CLEAN, dry surface, and apply small dabs of the adhesive to both the lid and the gasket, and let it dry completely. When the cemented areas touch each other, the glue sticks to itself. Don't use any glue between the filter housing and the lid.
Next oil change, be sure and scrape all the old cement off and prepare the gasket surface with a volatile spray like brake cleaner or carburetor cleaner.

Back home ,I cleaned the gasket and lid. Then I used a skim of grease on the gasket and installed the lid. It had a small drip but I used a 7/8" wrench and tightened. Ok now, even after a short drive. | | |
