Curious how hard it is to remove it. You can purchase an after market replacement for around $400, but I would still have to remove the existing one. Thanks for any advice or words of wisdom on this one. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 946 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 946 | That sounds like a real pain in the butt. What's wrong with yours? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 349 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 349 | My truck has the common rust issue on the inside, right above the windshield (along the entire length). I think a lot of people cut out the rust and weld in a piece of metal or fill it in with body filler or fiberglass. I have never heard of anyone removing the entire inner piece and putting in a new one, but they must do it since they sell the replacement part for it. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 1,363 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2011 Posts: 1,363 | The picture I have seen of the way the factory did it, shows that inner panel installed before the outer roof panel is installed.
Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks. Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

I am thinking it would be easier to just cut out the portion that is rusted and fabricate some new metal to fit. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 443 | Try to find a usable section from another cab & splice it in. I replaced the inner and outer roof as one piece. There are dozens of spot welds holding the inner panel in. 1957 Chevrolet 1/2-ton Stepside LB in the Gallery My Photobucket shots The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill (1806 - 1873) | | |
