You need to run a hot wire to the positive side of the coil. The coil induction wire would go into the center of the distrubitor cap, I am not sure what you mean by
" Do I need to run wires from the coil to specific locations to at least insure I have the engine put back together correctly."
There is no position of your coil wire that would tell you if you rebuilt it correctly.
You need spark, compression, and fuel. You can hot wire the truck like I stated above. Putting a hot wire on the positive side of the coil is the same as someone stealing it or hot wiring it. Since it is all back together and you most likely won't want to take it apart, I would have recommended that you lubricate the engine by turning the oil pump before starting, so oil the top end by squirting some oil on each valve rocker. Watch to make sure it is "making it's own oil" in the first minute or so, if not shut it off.
You don't actually need a voltage regulator to make the engine run, make sure the water pump is turning and you have a charged battery. Run the wire to the coil, insure you have fuel, push the starter and hopefully it runs. Good Luck.
