Yes the Hydramatic has a small light just behind the indicator.

RE: 1964 C-10
The gray wire from the gear indicator light socket in the steering column flows thru the dash wiring harness directly to the fuse box, where it is connected into the "GAS GUAGE EXT" along with the tan wire from the fuel sender unit (coming from the gas tank).
The gear indicator light will not illuminate, nor does a test light in the socket illuminate. My fuel guage works.

| | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 100 | Ok. Solved. I really did not want to splice into any part of the wiring harness, but was curious as to why the socket wire was wired into the fuse box in conjunction with the gas tank sending unit wire.
Ran the socket bulb for the gear shift indicator to the fuse box and connected it to a separate terminal on the fuse for the dash panel lights. Works only with the lights on and also now has light dimming feature, just like the dash lights.
