For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 24 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 24 | I'm currently installing a 261 out of a late 50s car into my 61 1/2ton 4x4 Carryall. The original engine was a 235.I just realized that the bellhousing is different. Are the timing marks on the two bellhousings the same? Will I create any timing issues if I use my original b.housing on the 261?Are there any other differences I need to consider when doing this swap? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | You can use your original bellhousing, along with the flywheel, starter and clutch package if you want to. I am using a 235 package on my 261, but with my original 216 bell housing. Carefully check that you are using the right throw out bearing if you purchase new. There are depth differences.

Doing the alternator conversion on my 261 this week, although 3 wire and continuing with brake upgrade using dual master cylinder. I haven't run my 261 too much. No mufflers! Elderly neighbors are tolerant, but not all the time. LOL.

My end gears are from Goetz (296:1) and it has a T-5 five speed also. Great to drive, smooth runner and good power. The only other changes are a HEI, 12 volt, and a two barrel carburetor. Oh, disc brakes around too. Normbc9 | | |
