The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The HiPo Shop Leaking freeze plug ?

So...I noticed a little puddle of coolant under the truck this morning - haven't had a chance to crawl under yet to confirm source but its coming from someplace around the rear left hand side of the motor ( 327 Chevy ), and is dripping off a the tip of a bolt over nrear the frame where the cab mounts ?? I'm thinking maybe the flywheel is throwing the coolant over there ?? If it is a leaking freeze plug it's liable to be one of those at the rear of the block. Is it possible to get at these by dropping the trans ( TH350 ), or is it necessary to pull the motor ?. Has anyone had any success with using " Bars Leaks" or a similar product ?

Find the source of the leak first. I had a leak on my thermostat housing that showed up on the back of my oil pan. Don't go rippin' and tearin' till you find the source.

Ditto on that,it ran along the inlet manifold where it joins the head and then down the back of the engine.

If I remember correctly the SBC has one behind the flexplate/flywheel.
My friends '52 developed 'incontinence' and he traced it to that one.
As far as I can remember he repaired it with the motor in,just removing the trans to access it.
