I've found that the torsion bars for Chevy trucks carry a different part number for right and left, but they're the same bars for 1/2- or 3/4-ton trucks.

I want to find out if GMCs had the same torsion bars, or if they were beefier.

Anybody have the part numbers for GMC t-bars?

Thanks,
-Brad

What are the 1500 and 2500 numbers?
Is there a notation as to which part number goes with which application?

They are listed in order of size of vehicle. The above is transcribed directly from the parts manual, so anything else is conjecture. But here goes. The top pair of lines should probably have 1000 after each of them to annotate a 1/2 ton truck. The next 2 pairs show 1500 and 2500 to denote 3/4T and 1 ton respectively. That would be the GMC nomenclature starting in 1960 for the weight ratings.
So the short answer to your question would be that the GMC 3/4 ton bars are not the same as the GMC 1/2 ton bars.
I take it that the Chevy and GMC p/n's are not the same? They rarely are.

I know a guy that's been able to track down just about any chevy part number you'd ever want. He sent me Chevy numbers for the torsion bars:
The 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton Chevy list the same part number, which surprised me.
It's the same number as the GMC 1/2-ton.

Once I compared the Chevy and GMC 1/2-ton numbers, I also figured the next two were 3/4-ton and 1-ton.
I wonder what the forth set is?
Did GMC ever have an inline 6 in '60-'62

Yes, but not in the pickups. It was in the Dubl Duti forward control trucks.
Fourth set is probably for the series 40 (Chevy, 4000 for GMC)trucks. There are a bunch more part numbers for the bigger trucks. 58 and 70 inch as well as some more heavy duty 45 inch rods for the COE trucks.

I'm actually investigating everything I can find about them to start having them made, because replacements aren't available (that I've found).
