While I was there the guy threw in for free a S10 Borg Warner 5 speed that looks almost brand new with mechanical speedo drive. My question is after reading all the posts and tech tips about T5 swaps. What is required in a tranny swap My truck is original with a four speed, and floor stomp foot starter that I would like too keep. It also has the original torque tube still fitted . So what is required with swapping them over, From what i can read the worst part is making a clutch pack up.

You should have a torque tube to a carrier bearing, and a open driveline to the rear axle.
Your swap is fairly simple. 1. Remove old transmission , torque tube, and carrier bearing, and clutch assembly. 2. Install new clutch assembly 3. Install T5 4. Have a local competant shop make you a 1 piece open driveline 5. Enjoy your new OD transmission.
OK, I over simplified the process. Most of the information you read about the swap for 1/2 tons will also be useful for 3/4 tons.
T5 transmissions came in many vehicles. Make sure yours is a gm version. Also make sure you have a tail shifting unit common to the s10 pickups.

If you are limited by time, experience, equipment and dollars I would suggest you evaluate what you're going to be doing with your truck. The T5 overdrive transmission, when coupled with the correct differential R&P ratio gives you excellent cruising speeds on the open road.
I've put nearly 14,000 miles on my 54 235/T5/3.42 combination and suggest you check out my Webshot albums where I've documented the conversion process. As for the clutch pack being an issue, I've used both the rcf 4201 and the disc from the 83-84 Firebird 2.8L with NO fitment issues. The stock pressure plate for the 153 tooth flywheel and the stock throwout bearing (long)finish off the setup. The necessary modifications to the transmission are clearly outlined so you will get it right the first time around.
As for the foot stomp....the conversion to the T5 doesn't effect it's operation. However, you're going to have some issues trying to match up a n open rear end with 8 lugs with the correct R&Pinion ratio to match your particular T5 od/rr tire diameter ratio. The 3/4 ton drive train is going to give you some headaches and you'll sacrifice some of the ruggedness of the 3600 drivetrain.

The guy threw it in for free so I figured what the hell :o) ps Dave Nice work in your photo albums and thanks for heads up.
