Today I got differential/torque tube mounted back on the rear axle. All went well with minor cursing until I realized one of the lower bolt's threds was stripped/smashed - it must have happend during removal with the weight of the pumpkin sitting on it. No matter how hard I tried I cannot get the nut on. Can the bolts be removed? I was going to try to hammer it back into the axle housing to remove it to use a die on the the threads. But before I make it worse I thought I'd ask here. (Of course none of the vendors have any listed in their catalog). Thanks!

If there is enough room you should be able to put a die nut on it and chase the threads right in place. If you are lucky some mechanic friend might have one and you won't have to buy a complete set. They are made to work with a regular socket and work great for what you are trying to do. I just googled die nut, it gives a pretty good description of it so you will know what to look for. Dave

Homer 52: Thank you, Thank you!! I didn't know there was such a thing. I was thinking of a something like a 3" long die and knew that wouldn't fit. I'm searching for a die nut on ebay now. Just happy I won't have to try to remove the bolt. Thanks again. Dave
