Another question... what are you guys doing to try to not have the truck stolen? I am a little worried about it... what upgrades to the security system have you done?

put it in a locked garage. pull the dist. and starter out along with the shifter, leaving it in gear. now they cant start it. take the wheels off and store them behind the garage leaving it on jack stands. now they wont want to steal it grin

get a good insurance policy to be able to replace the truck should it be stolen. take the same precautions as you do for your valuables in the house.

Talk to a recovery(repo) guy, they know all the tricks to get to a vehicle fast and quiet.

For all the others a steering wheel/foot brake lock, remote controlled security system with blinking light in the cab to tell you/them it is armed and a short range security/theft system to tell you if the doors are opened or truck moved. Slow them down and make them noticed.

Then be sure you have the proper personal equipment to deliver
SHOCK,AWE and PERSONAL INJURY to the bastards while you/they are waiting for the law to arrive.

I speak from personal experience.

Battery cut-off switch under the seat (but easily reachable). I have seen one used successfully in a 6v 1953 GMC. I do not know if the hot lead or the ground lead went through the disconnect.

Just gonna have to drive it more often, it's a lot less likely to be stolen while you're in the seat smile

My truck has a number of things that the average person doesn't know how to deal with, 10 speed unsynchronized transmission, air starter with a few steps to engage, and the engine needs fuel before it'll run.. Only someone familiar with it could easily drive it away, I suspect the average thief would have some trouble, or need a rollback/wrecker.

A battery disconnect is a good idea usually. No use as a theft deterrent in my case, as it'll start and run without a battery, which means a key switch is a little bit useless too.

nice thing about these older vehicles is that they stick out like a sore thumb unlike your average daily driven vehicle. Of course that doesnt mean it will prevent anything, but chances are the thief may think twice, or prb wont get very far unless theyre out in the middle of nowhere. One thing Ive seen is a remote switch that cuts off the ignition circuit to the starter relay and uses a remote on your key to activate and deactivate. That would be one option, ill have to look it up

One thing I like to do is hide a switch that kills power to the coil. That way it'll crank, but it won't fire. This hopefully will lead the thief to think it's an old p.o.s. that won't run, instead of prompting him to look for a battery disconnect.

Thats along the same line as I was thinking.... Mine will be parked in the street which I don't like... and in many ways someone can get in if they want too! A good alarm is a must... and maybe a lojack as well! Got to pay to keep her I guess =)

This is a great question. It's something that's been on my mind. And thanks for all the input and ideas!
