The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks floor pan & foot well

I have never replaced the foot well before and was wondering if I need to replace it first or the floor board first. The floor and foot well are completely rusted out in that area. HElP! I am assuming the floor but not sure would go in first.The left and right are really bad.

I'm doing this right now. My rocker and inner rocker were rusted out also. Right or wrong here's what I did in order:

1. Remover rocker.
2. Cut out rusted inner rocker and floorboard section.
3. Cut out front floor support.(Mine was rusted bad)
4. Weld in new inner rocker and floorboard section.
5. Cut out footwell section.
6. Weld in new footwell section.
7. Weld in new front floor support.
6. Weld in new rocker. (not done yet but next)

Like I said, not sure if this is the correct order but worked for me and I'm no expert at this.

On my 62 Chevy I do not have a enter rocker panel back plate same with another friend of mine. Asking around some guys say they do and others did not have one. I just wonder if they had run out when building them or what.

All of the light-duty, '60-'66 Chevy/GMC trucks, Panels & Suburbans, had an inner rocker panel. Without it, the outer rocker panel is structurally unable to retain its shape. Perhaps they were removed or damaged, via rust, so they no longer exist. The outer rocker panel is quite flimsy with the inner rocker panel, in place, and spot-welded to the outer rocker panel, along the top & bottom, and captured at the lower ends "A" & "B" pillars. Since they are not currently there, it should be a piece-of-cake, to install replacements. During the process, you may find some remnants of the original inner rocker panels or evidence, that they once existed.
