Which carburetors have worked out best for dependability for a daily driver with dual carbs. Rochester or the Carter-Weber on the market? This is a driver not a racer.

I used 2x2bbl Holley-Webers from Tom Langdon (he sells adapters for the Offy intake). Started right up, very reliable on a daily basis. No leaks.

Several guys here in the North Texas Inliners chapter run dual Carter/Webers on their 235s. We get them from Tom Langdon at Stovebolt Engine Co. Admittedly, we may be a bit biased because Tom is a longtime member of the Inliners organization, but people do seem to be very happy with the setup. One potential drawback is that there's no real tinkering to be done. You just install them and go. This will disappoint those who revel in rebuilding the old pieces. There is, of course, fabrication for fuel lines, manifold heat, and linkages. This might be a good option for your driver.

Here's a link to a set of pix I found on the web (no one I know).

regards,
Leon

I just built and install a dual manifold using two identical Rochester Mono-jets. It runs very well, starts at the first cylinder fire, and looks good. I havent been on a long drive yet for milage test, but around town it really feels good. Truck jumps right off idle and never quits.

I've been running the Langdon dual Carter/ Webers on my 235 for the past 14,000 miles and will verify that they are as efficient, easy to mount and maintain as you could want. They work fine with the crap gas they're selling and as Leon mentioned, you set them and forget them.

The C/W's work great in tandem on the 235 while the Holley/Webers would be a better choice for a single on the 235 or in pairs on the 261 or an over-built, over-cammed 235.

I'd like to point out that running dual carbs on any vehicle that is running a stock cam profile is NOT going to turn the engine into a powerhouse. However, the visual effect on the 235 is quite obvious and draws plenty of comments. In addition I've run the single holley/weber on a 235 and as with the dual Carter/Webers ALL the problems with leaks, hesitation, starting issues, and warped air horns are cured.

I've got extensive documentation and pictures in my Webshots Chevy albums of the carb conversion. Check them out....you won't be sorry you ditched the stock carb(s).

Thank you sir. That is what I've been looking for. I'll get them ordered tonight. I appreciate the candid answer.

A 216 would be a low pressure engine, the high pressure engines didn't come out until '53 (passenger w/Powerglide) and '54 (all).

That would be my installation. I really like the setup. Truth is that there was a bit more power out of the dual Rochesters but the Carter Webers have the reliability edge hands down!
