I didn't want to hyjack the other post about the mouse smell. I figured we needed a thread about mice and how they find their way into our trucks. And how to keep them out. Other than the normal places around pedals, holes in the firewal. I think I know where they come in the task force cabs at. 2 places I can think of are the cowling or plenum drains, and the air inlet grill. Anyone know of anyother entry points?

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks.
Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

any hole they can squeeze there little bodies into. i thought i had it all figured out. i loaded up the truck with moth balls. the only thing they kept out was me. so i blocked all the hole i could on the 6100 including the lever holes with chicken wire. that will fix them as i chuckled after getting my breath back from the mothballs. one day i went out to run the truck and iee all this mouse crap on the floor and said WTF. i lifted up the seat and there was a nest the size of a bowling ball from all the soft fuffy stuff from my new seat cover job. so i went to start the truck and saw a flash at my foot on the starter button. he was hiding under the mat and exited stage left out and under the seal for the steering column. i took some flashing and riveted the hole closed as tight as i could and now i can say that trucks cab is mouse proof at this time.

Its nearly impossible to seal the cab tight enough to mouse proof it. Even if you do the little vermin will chew their way through rubber boots, etc. Plus even if you keep them out of the cab what about all the under hood wiring they can chew up?

I use Bounce dryer sheets in my vehicles, one of which is a Model T roadster... no way to seal it up mouse proof! Toss a couple dryer sheets under the seats, on the floorboards and set one on the air cleaner. I have yet to have a problem with mice & the dryer sheets don't have a bad smell to us humans.

Works for me.

They got into my 1954 3600 via the hole too drain the behind the seat fuel tank . When I removed the tank I took 2 inch pipe insulation trimmed it too length glued it too the floor, tank squashed the top making perfect seal and still able too get tank drain out.

.... and get you a nice puddy tat. Note, if your truck is inside a building and you do have a cat, empty the cat litter around the building footing. The cat litter may have killed the odor but believe it or not the rats can still smell it and they will NOT cross that line!!!

The other way is to DRIVE them regular. Hey, even take the kitty for a ride to. He earns it smile

Mice (and rats) LOVE fermenting grain. Put a pound or so of cracked corn in the bottom of a 5-gallon bucket and add half a gallon of water. Prop a 3-foot piece of 1X2 board up to the edge of the bucket. As the grain ferments, the rodents will run up the board and dive in for a lethal swim. If the board starts at floorboard level of the truck instead of the floor, the rodent population in the vehicle will become zero very quickly.

I like perpetual mouse traps... Take a five gallon bucket, drill opposing holes two to three inches down the rim. Take a broom handle and cut it so that there are 3-4 inches sticking out either side. Then (here's the good part) use a paper towel roll and slide it over the broom handle inside the bucket. Spread a generous amount of peanut butter 2-3 inches wide in the center over the complete circumfrence of the roll. Put 3-4 inches of water in the bottom of the bucket. Take a 4 foot long 1x4 and dado a small lip about one inch down. Lean it on the bucket.

Now you have a mouse trap that only needs fresh peanut butter.

Takes a bit to get it up and running.... but all you have to do is reload peanut butter and pull out the carcasses.
