I don't know the terms to use when buying fuel line fittings for my '54 3100 235 Rochester B. Will you please help me with the terms and also suggest a good source? I checked the Fastenal site - made my head swim, 'cause I don't know what to search for.

I need the brass fitting that goes into the fuel pump, into which the brass fitting on the fuel line attaches. GM #137406 "Connector" in the '47-'54 Assembly Manual.

I also need the "60 degree elbow" (labeled "C"), the "Sleeve tube connector", and possibly the "threaded sleeve" needed to attach the accessory fuel filter to the carburetor as shown in the 1951 Accessories Installation Manual.

The instructions for installing the filter in the 1954 Installation Manual state:
"2. Cut 1-1/4 inches from gasoline line as shown in figure[51]"
"4. Install 60 degree elbow with short end into carburetor as whown in figure [51], an mount gasoline filter."
"5. Rebend gasoline line, install sleeve and insert end of gasoline line to full depth of sleeve and tighten securely to prevent gasoline leaks."

The '54 Installation Manual sez "It is necessary to use an adapter kit part number 986621 for truck installation." The adapter kit is the second photo on this page.

The 60deg fitting GM part number is 3693886 ... from the 1954 Master Parts Manual. The adapter kit is also listed in the MPM.

I have an "ACDelco" fuel filter on order from Eckler's Early Chevy.

I have steel fuel and vacuum advance lines on order from Chevs of the 40's.

The connector is a 5/16 inverted flare fitting with 1/8 male pipe thread. The 60 degree fitting is a 1/8 in. pipe thread nipple 60 degrees. The connectors are available at any parts store but the 60 degree fitting may be hard to find. You could use a straight nipple. Most of them I have seen are straight in front of the carb. Like I say these are available at parts stores & some hardware stores. If you can't find them & want me to mail you some e-mail me. I have a Fastenal catalog at the shop. I might be able to find the part numbers in it.

Knowing what to search for will be a big help. I'll check the Fastenal catalog again.

What about the fittings going into the filter? The flare will be cut off of the line.

I thought that they would be an easy off-the-shelf find. Advance Auto Parts did not have the fuel pump fittings. Didn't even ask about the 60deg. A small NAPA store close to me didn't have them either.

I haven't received the filter or lines yet, so I have some time to look. If I can't find the fittings, I'll contact you.

I, too, have only seen filters attached with a straight nipple. I'm trying to match the original manual. Hope that I can find a 60deg fitting.

I bought my fittings at the local Ace Hardware store, plumbing department. A "big box" hardware store might have more selection, but my little store had those various pipe/flare fittings.

I went to the store have the ends of the old lines in my hand. This prevented any possibility of fit-up confusion. Worked like a charm.

That will be my first stop when my filter and lines arrive. I got a little spooked when NAPA and Advance Auto Parts didn't have them.

Still not sure about the "threaded sleeve" and "sleeve tube connector" shown in the Accessories Manual. The 60deg fitting may be a long shot.

I was unable to find a 1/8" 60° NPT elbow so, I made one... see pic

Did you flare the end of the fuel line going into the filter?

LonnieC, I do cad drawings for a friend you has a hi-tech machine shop. I did a drawing of the 60° elbow and he made it for me.

The only fittings I had to buy was the nipple from carb to elbow and elbow to filter. I removed the connector from carb and installed on inlet side of filter. Rebent fuel line, cutout the 1 1/4", reflared and installed.

If you know of a machinist or machine shop they can make the elbow for you.

If you have AutoCad I can send you the drawing.
