Any thoughts?

It's a couple inches wider, but should fit just fine | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 60 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 60 | 54Belair,I posted a complete drum to drum, that is all complete, with 456gear ratio, that I replaced with an S10 4wd truck, with 373posi-trac,and hooked it to an overdrive transmission.I was asking 200.00,or best offer.I am located in Piqua,Ohio. I would like to see if my local salvage yard might have one.
I do have a strong preference to want to keep my Chevy truck Chevy, but I will go look at one.

The trick is finding one. | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 | For a Ford van Dana 60, I would try an early/mid 90's. For Dodge, just about any year should work. If you want to stay all GM, a 14 bolt may work also. | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 3 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 3 | that is correct I just put one in my 49 3600 out of a 69 3/4 ton gmc 4.10 bolted right up | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 305 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 305 | opey so you are saying that you just swapped out the gears in the differential or you swapped out the whole axle? i have a 53 3600 and would like to get some more speed out of it

Unbolt the drive shaft, unbolt and pull the axle shafts, then unbolt the front of the differential housing. Don't drop it, it's heavy! Reverse the procedure to install. This keeps your original axle housing (and width) while upgrading your gears
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.

I've posted the codes before, but for sake of saving a ton of searching for them, here they are again. 1967; HW, JU. These are listed as 4.11, may be Spicer rather than Eaton 1968; NA, NB, WI, RN (RN is listed as a 1 ton diff) 1969; NA, NB, OT, OW, OY, TF. There are also 1 ton listings; IE, LJ, LZ, MR, NZ, RN. 1970; TAA, THU, THW, TJU, TLN, TMZ, TNA, TNB, TOT, TTF, TWI. 1 ton; TIE, TIH, TLJ, TLX, TLZ, TMR, TNZ,TRN. 4x4 K20; TPW, TPX 1971; TAH, TAJ, TJA,TJB, TJP, TJS, 2G. 1 ton; TAK, TAL, TAP, TJK, TPZ. 4x4; TJH, TJJ,TKB, TKC, TKK, TKL, TKS, TKT. 1972; RAH, RAJ, RJA, RJB, RKK, RKL, RKS, RKT, RJP, RJS, RKB, RKC. 1 ton; RAK, RAL, RAK, RAP, RJK. 4x4; RJH, RJJ. I do have listings for a 3.54 ('71 and '72) and a 4.11 ('67-'72). but from what I understand, those are Spicer differentials rather than Eaton, though I have seen a '72 with a 3.54 code on an Eaton differential. BTW, most, if not all, GMC trucks from the '60s used a Spicer differential in the rear, either a Spicer 60 or 70 (I've senn them both ways).

I've had a bunch of guys PM me asking me to check the numbers that they have on a gear they are looking at. I find myself just repeating the same thing over and over. That info orta be out there for everyone to access.

Rolf, the numbers listed are for the HO52 and HO72, essentially the same axle with the main difference being the brakes. They were manufactured by Eaton for Chevrolet. As noted, GMC used Spicer axles during that period, as did some Chevrolets with the leaf spring option, usually Camper Specials.

It is www.chevysoftheforties.com They have a big inventory and trucks is a part of what they do. Ask for Chad. He is a knowledgable person. | | |
