When welding in new metal, what type welder is best? Stick or wire?

A mig with .025 wire and an Argon/CO2 shielding gas is the only way to weld body panels. Before I would use a stick, I would go back to gas and coat hanger wire like we did 50 years ago.

I have all types but the best result I find is TIG with .040 tungston and .035 wire. Take the time to fit patch perfectly no matter what method you use. And clean all rust, paint, oil etc.

If you want absolute perfection, you would need a TIG outfit. For the rest of us, .025 MIG is the way to go.
