The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay bright and dim park lights

After converting to 12v and hooking up the new park lights in the grill of my 50 chevy pick up, passenger side is very bright and the other dim. Bulbs are correct so I'm thinking there must be a bad ground or short somewhere. Tail lights look fine so can someone give me an idea as to how can I find the problem?

if you have turn signals installed with the dual filament sockets and bulbs, then you have the wires reveresed on one side .... if not then it could be a poor ground on the dimmer one [not a short]

Thanks Bill, I'll check it out tonight and I am installing a new directional switch at the same time.

Bill is correct, I had the same thing happen with the front running lights. had the wires switched so I was using the turn part of the bulbs filament which is brighter for my running lights. When I went to hook up my tail lights. I tested them first at my battery to see which one was the brake/turn wire (brighter)and which was the running light wire (dimmer) then marked them with a piece of masking tape I also installed a new ground off the light housing mounting bracket to the frame near the tail lights.

I just fixed that very same problem on my truck tonight. It was a poor ground.

I ran a new ground wire from the body (behind the light unit) to the light and it was fixed ... but then that one was brighter than the other (which I thought was the good one!), so I did the same deal on that one and now both front park lights are nice and bright!

I had something odd happen when I wired my parking lamps.

I have one black and one green wire comming off each lamp... ...pic...

Tested one lamp and found the green to be the bright/signal wire. Black dim/park wire

Wired everything up...., and had one bright one dim when I turned on the parking lamp.

Found that the other lamp had the black as the bright/signal wire. (Oppsite from other side)

Very Odd
