Is it possible to get new (stock) front spindles for a 1957 Chevy 1/2 ton truck?

Thanks all!

Jon

Avette4me,
I contacted Brothers and Filling Station. They don't have the stock spindles..I will take a look at Jim Carter..
I found spindles used at Golden State Parts! $100 each.

Thank you!

Jon

It was too good to be true...As you all know I had my spindles replaced (used ones). I had the local NAPA machine shop replaced the bushing in the spindles. I had the front-end up in the air a while back and checked the play in the wheel...and there was alot. I removed the front end and took it to a different shop. I got the call today I did not want to hear. They told me the bushings are now too loose in the spindles and whoever did the work...honed out the holes too much.

So now I am curious how NAPA will take this info. Will they back up their work? The spindles were used when I took them to them. But I would think they would have told me they were bad from the start.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Jon

Would it be possible to use new 2" drop spindles on my stock front end? How do they make the spindles drop 2"?

Today I found out whoever worked on these spindles, dimpled the inside of the spindles with a punch. The bushing slides in and out with your finger.

Is it possible to find a larger bushing to press into the spindle?

Thank you!

why would you want to lower the truck Jon? if you can't find oversize bushings, you ought to be able to find some good used spindles - check yer mail wink

jon, check with Sid at droppedaxles.com.

http://www.droppedaxles.com/CONTACT_INFO.html

he should have a good rebuilt set that he can sell you. as far as i know nobody sells dropped spindles for our trucks. if so i would have me a set.
another thought, could a machine shop weld up the bushing hole, then redrill and ream the hole to the original size ?
good luck.

Lenoard,
You were holding out on me I see! What I am concerned about is how much "meat" will still be on the spindles with these oversized bushings...

If I installed the 2" drop new spindles, would it change the height you thing of the truck being stock? Is there a way to add some kind of block to raise the height back up?

Yes, 2" drop spindles will lower the truck 2". They would ruin your restoration. Run from them.

the oversize bushings will be like 'bore and sleeve', it'll bring the eyes back to specs and all will be good - as Cletis sez, do NOT consider dropped spindles on your painstaking restoration

yea jon, your truck wouldnt look right if it were lowered, and i havent ever found any dropped spindles, so if you know of a place, please let me know.
now that i think about it, Sid swapped out one of my spindles with one that has a sleeved out bushing and its like new. Sid stands behind his work / parts, so you will be good to go. and, once again, i love the story behind your truck..

Hi Leonard,
I always thought Classic Parts of America had drop spindles. But on their web sit it says something about a mustang drop spindles. I ordered their catalog to check it out.

As you know, I sent the spindles to Sid Friday. He sent them back out today. He offers no warranty but said he uses Moog parts. I just hope this issue will be over.

I don't sleeve the spindles I just bore the spindle bushing hole out a few thousands and press in over size bushings. Then I line ream the bushings for standard size kingpins. I don't offer a waranty on the parts because they are Moog parts. That's there job. Like Lenard said I do stand behind my work. Good Luck
