? is a 402 chevy engine a 400 that has been bored out or did chevy make a 402, thanks,,,Fred

Two completely different engines. The 400 is a small block; the 402 is a big block, essentially a 396 with a slight overbore (about 0.030). The 402 was sometimes marketed as a "Big-Block 400", being distinguished in the literature as the "400 4 bbl" as opposed to the "400 2 bbl" which referred to the small block.
