The 400 is a small block; the 402 is a big block, essentially a 396 with a slight overbore (about 0.030). The 402 was sometimes marketed as a "Big-Block 400", being distinguished in the literature as the "400 4 bbl" as opposed to the "400 2 bbl" which referred to the small block. | | |
