Does anybody out there have any experience with this setup? I need at least a close idea of choke/jet sizes for this setup, I can't afford alot of trial and error. BTW, 302 .060, venolia pistons, mild cam, Fenton headers and triple dellorto 40 mm DHLA's. Thanks guys. wink

Harley Davidson guys sometimes use those Dellortos on their engines. The individual bike cylinders are around the same size as your GMC.The tuning should be similar at least as a starting point.Use www.google.com search engine for Dellorto carburetor. I did ,and several web sites came up offering parts ,service and advice.Lets us know how you make out.

'50 GMC 1/2 ton Long bed P/U. 302 jimmy, od tranny, newer rear, discs on the original axle, single leaf springs, saginaw power steering, no body mods but I'm going to do a custom interior. 'looking for a 60/40 bench out of an early '70's Monte right now. BTW, where in Berthoud? I'm on the west side of Loveland just south of 34.

What OD tranny are you using? I often look around at the blocks taking up space in my garage with ideas of supercharging something but realize that my t-5 would be a weak link. In particular I've been looking at the front bosses cast on my military 302-an ideal place to bolt on a centrifigal blower.

I'm planning on a t-5. A world class box out of a camaro and a tailshaft out of an s-10. Hopefully this will stand the tork of the 302 wink .

Li'l Jim......T-5 won't take much abuse behind a good 302 it's not all that strong
Better than a Saganaw but still not a Liberty
or a Muncie

Tony: I'd love to post some pics but I don't have a d camera or a scanner frown .
Jim: I talked to Tom Langdon and he's running a t-5 behind the 302 in his coupe, he says he dosn't have any problems with it and his motor's a little bigger than mine's going to be. BTW, what's a "Liberty" and does it have an od? I respect you advice see'n this engine is your speciality. Also, so far I've been pleased with the dellortos and haven't had to much trouble getting parts, I just cant afford to buy 3 different sized chokes and 6 diff main jets and 4 or 5 diff idle jets for 3 carbs, if you know what I mean. Thanks alot all for your advice, keep it coming. wink

OK Listen-up anyone that tells you a T-5 is good 1.IS NOT making power or 2 Doesn't use it or 3 ASK PHAT
I don't wish to start a fight here No one need to take this personally....but T-5 is only good in light-duty applications
There are lotsa people that think they have power and their trucks are fast...Talks cheap
Records are hard won You pick!!

Good to hear from you again Jim, hope you're having a good trip. What tranny would you suggest? I know you're using a toploader but I'd kinda like a 5spd, you know more gears and closer ratios. I thought about a NV4500 but I dont like the wide ratios in it. I put one in my '76 this summer and it's a great tranny, strong and all, but it dasen't have performance ratios. Give me suggestions, I'm pretty open. I'm just 18 and this my first time at doing this on an AD cool wink eek . Thanks all.

Litte Jimmy. Regarding the transmission, I spoke with Patricks and they suggested going with a Saginaw 4-spd and for cruising, switch out my torque tube rear with a 3:11 chevy rear. My 302 is stock right now. I am at the point where I need to get the drivetrain situation in the works. Any suggestions?

I ran a Volvo Od for years...It was good with the 228 but 302 killed it twice in less that 100 mi
I would use the T-5 over a Saganaw anyday. If you push it you will kill em both!!That's the truth!
I really hate the T-O/D but it's just very strong.
I'm looking for another trans to run cause the ratios are so bad
I might endup with Jag O/D trans I have just not decieded....I have to come-up with something for my Comp Coupe
Also know I'm lazy and will spend several times a t-5's price to have a box I can just FLOGG without having to change it
Europe was cold and snowy but really very special given a small town style and my Lady's sweet smile.

A Truly Happy New Year to everyone of you

Here's a site for more info. They handle much more torque. http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/

How about a T-56 out of a mid 90's F body? Six speeds, good ratios, lots of tourqe capacity. Wow, I could even run a 4.11 rear with that .5 od. Only problem is the $$$, ouch eek. But it might be cheaper than blowing a couple T-5's . I'm looking into it cool .

Yes I have looked at these and talked to racers about it
They arn't strong enough to handle the torque
I had a guy say'How much torque can an old motor make?''Did you ever see an Army movie I said....Remember the truck fulla guys with the trailer on the back?Well that was a STOCK one and mine's BUILT"

What about the jag tranny Jim? What are the ratios like? Is it tough enough? How about the bolt pattern and input shaft, would it thake alot of mods? I don't know much about this tranny (obviously wink ) And most importantly, what do they run? I'm kindof running out of options (in my price range). There's always the Richmond 6 speed eek .

Bill Miles suggested contacting you on my question. I am looking to install a saginaw 4-spd in my 45 GMC 1/2 ton. I have a 302 military engine and understand you installed on in your truck. Can you tell me what to look for? What rear end should I go for?
