I know at least one goes on the dash. Not sure if I want to commit to screwing a plate on my fresh new dash, but if that is where it went, that's where it shall go. I would definitely put them on. I cant get enough of those old style metal info plaques.
HOLLEY CRAP DUDE! just looked through all your pictures at 6 in the morning! Fantastic work.
Was the V8 you installed factory available when your truck was new?
What is with the orange lights on the fenders when your first got the truck?

It has taken 6 years to get to that point and it should be done in a month. It took so long due to the actual time I have to work on the truck, about 3 hours a week, and money. I've learned the art of patience...
It is very easy to bolt up NAPCO running gear to a 2-wheel drive, just drill some holes for the t-case and t-case shifter, the rest is a bolt up affair. That is how they did it at the dealer and factory.
The engine is aftermarket, I was stupid to get rid of the straight 6. That was my biggest mistake in this project. Luckily, I know where the engine is and have an offer to buy it back. It will bolt right back in perfectly.
The original truck came from a guy in CA that had an electrical business. It had that huge rear bumper and those lights on the fenders. Not sure if those were options at the dealer or if they were aftermarket bolt-ons.
George, Thanks, I will go over there and take a look!

Just so you all know the running gear came off a 58 Chevy Panel. I am positive that it was a government ordered vehicle due to the winch, the funky roof rack and the 17.5" wheels. Unfortunately, I didn't take photos of the interior dash... dumb. I guess my truck is sort of a mutt, so I need to figure out what looks the best before drilling the beautiful dash with holes. Do the locations seem correct? I will put the shift pattern on the glove box door. Does it go on the left side of the door, in the middle or off to the right? Click on the upper right images to go to the others. (Pain) to get that over the metal.
And im no Chevy expert, but I do know that the 235 I6 is a good motor. Id recommend swapping the original block back in if you can.

Yeah, it will be awhile before I get the original engine back. And when I do it will need to be rebuilt. Think I'll enjoy the truck for awhile before major transplants. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 456 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 456 | I posted a reply at the NAPCO site. I'd bet anything that your '58 Panel was a Civil Defense truck. Every one of those that I've seen, including mine, had a winch and those metal plates mounted.

I cut one rusty brace and the entire body collapsed on the frame. It was rather scary. A few parts were sold to fix other 58's. There is a red one out there I have seen that is exactly like mine, but restored. Saw it on Ebay a couple years ago. I think it belonged to a fire station. | | |
