Ok so I have this '51 and the tires are all mismatched, but all are 215/75/R15. I am assuming these are the stock size? The real issue with the current tires is that they are pretty dry rotted. Im pretty sure the date on the one I checked said 1996!!

My daily driver is a 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. It currently has a fairly new set of Kelley 235/75/15's put on by the PO. I want to upgrade the Wagoneer to an even larger set of BFG Radial TA's.

NOTE:
215/75/R15= 27.7" X 8.6"

235/75/R15= 28.9 X 9.3"

What do you think?

Actually, now that I think about it, would this slightly larger tires increase my max speed?

Thanks

The 235/75/15s will fit fine, though you may have issues with the wheels if they are too narrow. The 235/75/15 tire works best on a 7" wide wheel, too narrow of a wheel will cause sidewall support issues and poor handling. The increase in diameter will raise the MPH some, but the speedometer will read slow compared to actual speed.

Thanks! What wheels were available in 1951? Im pretty sure mine is 100% stock.

You sure the width would be an issue? For example, I run a 12.5" wide tire on a 8" wide wheel on my Jeep. This is very common in the 4x4 world.

Think Im just gonna go ahead and do the swap.
