Take a look at this folks. I didnt even know this combination existed! Only had time to take a couple pics. Note the deluxe cab trim, big back glass, v8 badge, and yes, that does indeed say hydromatic there on the fender! Didnt get to take a pic of the inside... But I can tell you it has the deluxe heater controls and factory radio. Floor boards, steps, cab corners, fenders, etc are all solid.

Its located somewhere in the centeral time zone (I'm not going to get to specific for obvious reasons....lol) and he said he drove it from colorado last year... towing 20k lbs! He raved and raved about how nice the transmission was and with it coupled to the two speed rear end it would cruise at 70 mph. Now i'm not sure about all of that being as how the intake has since been pulled off if it but I can sure tell you this, I am going back with cash in a week or two to try and buy it. He did price it to me but I think he was a little steep.

There are more of them around than one would think. However this one seems like it is in a lot better shape than most. The two speed probably has a wide split. You start in low range and go through the gears and then shift the axle into high range and go through the gears again. Hope you can negotiate the guy down to what you consider affordable.

Sounds nice. I'd like to ride in the truck while it goes through the gears.

Does it have a 2-speed rear-end and/or a 2-speed reduction unit attached to the rear of the transmission (as was available in 1955)?

It has a 2-speed rear end, not sure about the hi-lo range in the tranny, I didnt look that close. I was thinkin about putting it on my 94 dodge cummins frame. I didn't want to look too interreasted at $2500. If it was running and driven maybe. I'm thinking 1500 tops and he was not acting like he would take that. So I will let him sit on it for awhile and see that no one is knocking down his door, and if they do then good for him.
