Have only found one company that makes cams for the 292 and thats Iskys' racing cams. I don't want a race cam. Just a good torque and mileage cam. Can't seem to find a company that makes them. Any recommendations? Would like a cam just above stock. Any help appreciated. Thanks. smile H.

Have you tried Summit Racing? They have a variety of the 250/292 cams.

clifford research used to make good cams. don't know if they are stil aound or not. dempsey wison cams used to take your old cam, straighten it, dry lube and regrind for chaerp, and they worked pretty well too.

Henry G, you might wanna check out Clay Smith Cams They will custom grind you a cam for what ever application. I am assuming they would have a "blank" for you engine since they had one for my 235. It is a great deal because they will do it for $200 plus shipping.

Stay away from "Comp Cams". Bought one from them that lasted less than 3,000 miles in a 250ci. My opinion.

I have also had a Comp Cam go flat(one lobe) in very few(less than 500m)in a Ford 289. I know it was broken in according to directions, they warrantied the cam but not the lifters or oil pump etc. Never had a problem w/any other brand, even regrinds. Brian

clifford is still around i just got one in the mail yesterday. about 200 for just the cam, 350 for the complete kit. that's for a mild performance cam. thay say you have to have the hardened push rods and tougher springs for it so i got the kit. the delta place might be just as good and a little cheaper. no matter which one i got i would put it on v blocks and check for for droop. i was on the 3rd one before i got one within specs from my local parts store for the 250 i built last year. lots of places store them on their sides.

I wish to thank Everyone for the info. I hope to have an engine in the next several days all goes well. May go with Clay Smith. I'll call them and chat at the tech and see what they recommend. This site really is awesome. The BEST! H.

I called Clay Smith and they are very helpful and pleasant on the phone to speak with. If I do decide to change cams, I'll most likely go with theirs. For the 292 they recommended the H264-0B for strong low end torque and mid range power being it is going in a 4x4 with a 700R4 and a Stage 1 torque converter. Should give reasonable economy. Can't wait to start on this project! GM inlines are King! H. ps, Thanks for the warnings on Comp. I almost was going to go with one of theirs though I could not find a listing for the 292. Just the other smaller inlines. Changed my mine.

Hey Chuck, Love your truck! Nothing like an inline purrr. Especially after all that hard work and investment. Reasonable mileage too along with good performance. These ole' stovebolts just keep going and going like the Everready Bunny. Saw one today in a 69 pick up with a 250 and it runs sweet. Just love that sound they make. Going to look at a 292 in the morning. Supposed to be a rebuilt one. We'll see. There are some real good machine shops here. Primarily two excellent ones. If they did it, it will be done right. Going right after breakfast and grab an espresso and off to check it out. I hope its what I'm looking for. H.

Well, I got there and they had crushed it about a day or two earlier. Went up there for nothing. Oh well, nothing new sometimes. Have to decide on the next stragedy. Going to a Rod and Custom Show tomorrow at the Expo grounds in Central Point, Oregon. Should be a great show. Got a glimpse of a 65 Chevy pick up in mint condition with a nice silver paint job on it for the show. Its for sale. Out of my price range. Have a great weekend ya'll. H.
