Thanks to all for helping to id my t5 tranny the next question is I want to replace the rear seal of course and what ever seal I need to replace on the input shaft.

What info do I need to get the correct rear seal and is there a bushing that needs to be replaced? Are they all the same?

The input shaft has some sideways play maybe .25 inch in it. Again, what info do I need to replace the input seal AND is there a bushing that needs to be replaced here, will this repare this sideways play?

Thanks
Rick,,,

There is a bushing in the tail shaft. Put the drive shaft yoke in it to check the play. A small amount is ok. If it is excessive you will need a new bushing. The ones ive worked with seem to be oK, even with high mieage. You can dig the rear seal out the back of the houseing & replace it. To replace the front seal remove the front brg retainer. The seal is in it. To adjust the front brg. play you have to ad a shim behind the race in the retainer. The race slips out. You can inspect the front brg. at this time. Do not let the shaft come foreward very far. If you are going to modify the trans for a swap now is the time. Put a thin film of RTV on the retainer before you put it back on.

Check out your tailshaft slip yoke outer surface for scoring from a bad bushing. If the outer surface is smooth your bushing should be okay. If you yoke is galled you'll need to locate a bushing puller and installation tool to R&R the bushing. The new bushing and new rear yoke seal can be found at AutoZone....Timken 5200 for about $8.00. You'll also need to get a new yoke....best bet is a place that rebuilds driveshafts and the 5-1/2" yoke that is standard for most GM transmissions will run about $55-$75.00.

When you fill the transmission be sure to get it completely full as a low fluid level will play havoc with the bushing.
