What do you think would be a good deal for both. I think it has a 4 speed maybe sm420, I hope.

I tried to get the exhaust manifold off a couple of weeks ago but found it broken so didn't get it. In side the engine compartment looks unmolested. Owner parked it and a ford f8 side by side in the woods and quit hauling pulpwood so I'm guessing it's rebuildable. I guess I'll just offer him $100 and see if he bites. I don't have a use for the engine right now, just don't want to see it go for scrape. I can store an engine just no room for the whole truck.

Larry,
$100 would most likely be a good deal.
Worst case scenario:
- will you have to pay to transport it to you?
- how far away is the scrap yard?
Do you have to take the whole truck (do you want to take the whole truck)?
If you only want the engine/transmission, can you get it out of the truck (by you and/or the owner)?
Good luck. I'd take a gamble on a 261 and 4-speed for $100
