If that's the case, then I have a hard time thinking that the 0.5" difference in offset would be a big deal with regard to the tires hitting the frame, but perhaps somebody with more knowledge will weigh in.
I also searched for discussions about using trailer wheels on 1/2-ton trucks but didn't find much, all I could find was discussion pertaining to the 3/4-tons and 1-tons.
Are any of you guys using trailer wheels on your 1/2-tons?

There have also been discussions about original rims not clearing the new disc brake setup. I believe they were talking about trailer wheels in general not these specifically. be curious to hear if this was an issue with the 8 lugs as well.

I balance trailer wheels all the time. The only time I won't balance a trailer wheel is if it's going on a boat trailer, it's illegal to use lead wheigths on a boat trailer.
As far as 6 lug wheels, you should be able to find stock appearing wheels without a whole lot of issue.

Translation: "We're scared of lawyers!" Unless there's a DOT number on the wheels certifying them for passenger car/truck use, the factory can't legally sell them for the purpose you described. It would be like running a Goodyear Eagle racing tire on the street. No DOT number="not street-legal". It has nothing to do with balance or anything else, just legalese. Jerry

Jerry FYI I called Stockton Wheel and they said the same thing - they'd probably work just fine, but the trailer wheel vendor can't legally tell you that. Sounds to me like this is worth trying out. $50/rim for new, powdercoated rims is a good deal compared to the $25/wheel I've spent plus the extra $50/wheel (minimum) i'm gonna spend for media blasting and powdercoating.
