the motor turns over but the dist.rotor does not turn. I can wiggle the rotor but not turn it. anyone know whats wrong, i'am lost. 53 216 motor.

I would bet you have lost the cam gear. Pull the oil fill cap and see if the rockers are moving.

Pull out distributor to check that gear & pin first (after checking rockers) & hope--it is easier.....Steve

If the pin was sheared, the rotor would turn by hand. I'm betting on a shelled-out timing gear.
