I will be installing a 216 intake on a 57 235 so I can get the carb to set level,I know I will need the adapter rings for that but right now I have fentons on it but thinking on finding a split stock manifold for heating the intake. Will I have to use a 216 exhaust manifold or will one from a 235 work.

I believe that an exhaust manifold from a 216 or early 235 (41-49) 235 will be needed. The bolt patterns at the intake to exhaust manifold are different, as shown in the Parts catalog, and the Chevs of the 40s catalog:
Early manifold gasket

Note that the parts catalog also shows a third gasket for some of the D-D and COE engines.

Late manifold gasket

Has anyone ever adapted the different models?

I`m running a 1961 "235" in my 1950 Chev Coupe.
I swithed out a 1950 "235", using the original 50 intake and exhaust manifold, so, I do not know if their is a differance between the 216 and the 235 manifolds.

I got rid of the "alignment rings", used the new gaskets which I "stuck" to the head with high temp gasket sealer. Everything works good.

You really don`t need the Heating chamber, most of them have the heat "Rizer" rusted open anyway.

We just made a plate to block off the heat chamber on the "Fenton" headers.

216s and 235s both set the carb the same, level on the angled engine.

The bolt spacing for the intake to exhaust is different between 216 and 235 so you must use as a pair.

216 manifolds up through 1948 have the exhaust dump straight down. all 216 and 235s after that angle back.

When I do the intake swap I will most likely get a heat kit for the fentons for a 216 but would like to find a nicely done split manifold,I seen a split manifold with a 261 that was for sale on the HAMB that looked great and was in two pieces with a flange area from another manifold welded to the rear section that I would love to have. All the split manifolds look a little hokey to me and I did have one before I installed the fentons but it was a rigged mess, what I really want is a corvette split manifold but they are pricey and I would be stuck with a 235 intake that makes the carb lean.

I am running a 216 intake and exhaust on a '53 235. I 'bored out' the ports on the 216 manifold to accept the 235 locator rings.

The 235 in question is in my 37 and the carb is tilting towards the front and I noticed the front three cylinders running richer then the rears so I will be installing a 37 to 39 intake.
