Guy's I realize this has been covered in old post, however I could not find the info for my truck exactly. 1955 2nd 3/4 ton 3600. I went out to the kook site at www.oldtrucks.com/page0276.html and reviewed the info, my questions is this. Is the 55 2nd HO72 diff cabable of utilizing the same donor third member?

I have located a donor in nebraska ( 1972 3/4 ton van auto coil springs 4.11} if this is the case please let me know. Im knew at this and just trying to verify before I buy.

Something doesn't seem right about that doner description. Vans in '72 were leaf spring, not coil. Also a "3/4 ton" van could still be 1/2 ton components as the vans are rated differently than trucks. If it truly is an HO56/72, then yes the 3rd member will swap, but you need to verify that it is actually the correct diff. I've personally never seen a van with the HO 56/72 axles.

Thanks, the yard guy seems to be very up to speed on these old diffs and is going to check trucks first by spinnig wheels and counting revs, however very cold out so he is waiting untill next week. I will keep you posted.

So the question is, does the van have the HO56 rear axle, and if it does is the gear in it a 4.10 or 4.56 or 5.13 (3.90 and 6.17 are scarce as hens teeth or mythical).

If it does, then get that 3'rd. I got my 4.10 already to replace my 5.13.
