Anyway, I've stripped all the old decorative vinyl gold leaf tape off my truck and it will be hand painted just like originial starting next Thursday morning. The letters on the doors and hood remain as I've got the Norfolk St. Patrick's Day parade on Saturday morning before removing the letters! More photos to follow...
It's good to be back in bolt land.

Anyway, the stick on gold leaf peeled off with a hair dryer set on low heat. It was very easy to remove. Hair dryer in one hand and rolled tape off with the other hand. I took the letters off the hood and doors yesterday afternoon so we are ready for the painter to start on Thursday morning.
It looked good but it wasn't the original method. I want to make it like it arrived in Thalia in October 1952.

Also I applied to put the old Chevy in the 100 years of Chevrolet display at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY from August 2011 to Jan 2012. They will announce those selected sometime after June 1st. So if selected some of you stovebolters will get to see it near your area!
I'll let you know if it gets selected or not. Happy Memorial Day!!!!

I sent back the sizes so we are still waiting a final decision from the museum committee.

We have been by that facility a number of times and it looks pretty nice -- they should have a great display.
January won't be a good time to be hauling back through the mountains -- hopefully the weather will cooperate and you'll have dry roads. If not, consider those full-width mud flaps the rv-ers use and some fender flares?
I wonder how much covered transport would be for that? From somebody like Horseless Carriage or somebody?

Not my idea of reasonable so I'm loading it on my trailer and towing it both ways!!!! Can you say, "Road Trip!!!!" I'll take my time and enjoy it all.
Today, I made a reservation to tour the Chevy corvette factory on July 28th so I might even spend a day or two in the area. Also I plan to meet stovebolt member FCFDChief2 while I'm there to look at his truck. Sounds like it will be a fun experiance all in all...

However, it is a corvette place... If you ever get the chance to visit, you will not be disappointed as it is top notch. I spent three days looking at all the cars, parts and exhibits. It is World Class in every way!
However, I have decided not to transport my truck 750 miles and back. It is a real haul and more than I am willing to undertake. I guess in the excitement of the moment, I didn't realize just what it would take for me to tow it over the mountains and back. So I notified the National Corvette Museum that we would not be arriving as I had previously agreed.
I am disappointed but in the end, I think it is the best and safest choice.

I'm still trying to build a fire history museum with the 1951 Thalia Chevy and the new REO addition. We'll see how it works out in the long term...
BTW: I changed the spark plugs, fuel, fuel filter and the REO runs like new! It leaks oil but what old truck doesn't... Its 90 years old... LOL
