the number behind the distributor is ADCA385114. I have so far been unable to find this number listed anywhere to ID this motor. I checked the inliner site but havent found it yet. Am I missing something. Any info you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated. I believe it is a 216 but am not for sure.

Inliner site has casting numbers, you have the serial number. Someone here might be able to look it up in a book.

The casting number is usually in the vicinity of the starter. Raised numbers on the side of the block. You can usually find them by using a scraper on the block.

I think it is a 1946 3/4-ton or 1-ton 216. The "D" is for 1946. Check out this webpage http://chevy.tocmp.com/models/engine.htm#41eng . Keith has posted a LOT of useful info - for free, but some of it needs a little help. In the case of your ADCA serial no. The first "A" is a prefix for 3600 & 3800 series. The "D" is model year 1946. The "C" also designates 3600/3800 series and the last "A" is the plant code for Flint regular engine. The block casting number and casting date, both found on the passenger side of motor are also helpful. Good luck!

Thanks Frank. The body serial number also indicates a 3600 built in nov. 1946 in St. Louis. I am going to find the casting number today. Seem like that is the magic number. Thanks again.
