can anyone please send me a simple wiring diagram/understanding of the wiring (2 wires) for a 51' stock gas tank sending unit? my truck had no wires when i got and the new unit came without instructions. seems pretty simple, i just can't find it any where online and i don't want to hook it up wrong. thanks -DVZ

51 truck wiring diagram, print it out, should also be in the shop manual, an invaluable asset for vintage truck owners

i hooked up the unit the way the diagram shows and am still getting nothing on the needle. are these units 0 ohms empty and 30 full? i will test tomorrow. also, does the guage have to be grounded or does it ground through the housing? there are only 2 posts and most guages i've seen by re-searching this have 3 (ignition, ground, sender). thanks-DVZ

you are correct.
30 ohm full
0 ohm empty
It grounds to the housing

A few months ago I could not get my new 12v replacement gas gauge working. After reading Jimmi V's post I cleaned paint from the housing, I bench tested it and it works.
