I "acquired" a 1955 2-ton the other day, which of course doesn't run. It does turn over, and the previous owner said it had "wiring problems". First order of business is determining if it is 6 or 12 volt. I'm leaning toward 12 volt because the battery is 12 volt - but not taking any chances. Any help in determining is appreciated. Thanks.

howdy Doc, welcome to the garage ... you need to tell us if it's a first or 2nd series 55, that's right where the dividing line is 6 to 12 volt

It's the second series I believe - more "square bodied", not big rounded fenders.

Are you referring to a 2-ton GMC or Chevrolet truck?

Most likely you have a 1955 second-series Chevrolet truck and it is most likely 12v.

If the generator or starter have a Delco-Remy tag on them, red is 12v and black is 6v.

Take a close up look at the headlight lenses.
The operating voltage is embosed right on the
glass lense.....
